I think that you should go with the topic of global warming and skiing. You said that you love to do it, so it seems that you would have a lot of fun researching it. Why not keep track of what's going on with global warming and what might happen to your skiing season? If you did choose this, you could talk with people at Sugarloaf or Sunday River about their opinions on everything and you could also talk to other skiers or snowboarders about how they feel about a shorter season. I just personally think you could do a lot with it, and you wouldn't get bored because it's something that you love.
You should choose skiing, since Global warming was one of your topics, and it would be easy to tie in global warming into skiing, but you could also tie in skiing to global warming. Either way, thos two topics are almost the same. Global Warming I think would be easier to find more information on and you can tie it into winter in Maine, skiing and personal effects that you are experiencing now.

Possible I Search Topics

English I Search
In my research I have picked three topics, all of which I find very interesting. The topics I have chosen are: Cleaner Energy Solutions, Darfur, and How Global Warming Will Affect Skiing. I’m not sure yet if I want to choose an intense and emotionally heavy topic like the genocide in Darfur, or something a little lighter like global warming and winter sports.
I have been following the Genocide in Darfur since I was in eighth grade, so I already have quite a bit of background information on the subject. As I said, it would be a more emotional and disturbing topic to research, but that may make it much more interesting to follow. This would also be a good topic to research because trials and hearings of Sudanese government officials like President Omar al-Bashir are just beginning. I think there are a lot of other people in our school and country who care deeply about this issue, which makes it a good topic to blog about.
Skiing is my favorite thing to do. I would give anything to be skiing right now, but unfortunately I have a couple more weeks to wait. In the winter, my entire life revolves around skiing. My friends and I are at Sugarloaf every weekend, and It’s likely that I’ll miss a few days of school for some fresh powder. By now, most everyone in our country and in the world knows that global warming is a reality, and that over the next few years, climate change will drastically change our patterns of life. Skiers, snowboarders, and other winter enthusiasts don’t have the most to lose from this crisis, but we will definitely be hit hard by its effects. This would especially be a good topic to research and blog about, since the I-Search lasts 6 months, and the ski season will be just about over by then.
The struggle to find cleaners ways to produce and store energy is ongoing. Scientists are working to find cleaner energy solutions for our country and the world, so that we can perhaps slow the effects of global warming. This is also a big issue in the upcoming presidential election, which makes it a very good topic to blog about. It will be interesting to see how our next president handles the energy crisis, and where it falls on his agenda. This topic really interests me because my dad works for a company that ships oil to refineries in the Pacific Northwest, and he has a lot of thoughts about the issue. It would also not be hard to find (many) other people’s opinions on this topic.
I am not sure yet which of these topics I am going to choose, but I am kind of leaning towards the skiing and global warming topic, since this year's ski season is just starting, and it will be going on, and stories will be developing for at least six months.
